GLAZED BALCONIES — fully closed in with mismatched glass panels, some panes clear, some dusty, some cracked, held in crooked wooden or metal frames, catching a dull flat reflection of the grey October sky. These glazed balconies are clean and empty inside — nothing visible behind the glass, just bare space. 3. CLEAN OPEN BALCONIES — bare and open, no glazing, nothing stored, just empty concrete platforms with simple iron railings and nothing else on them. The three types are mixed irregularly up the five-story column of balconies, with no pattern — a cluttered one on one floor, a glazed one above it, a clean open one below. Every balcony, every pane, and every stored item is outlined with a crisp graphic ink contour, catching the flat October light. CENTER — THE BROKEN PATH WITH PUDDLES: Down the center of the frame, a broken asphalt path winds away into the distance, covered with deep puddles. In their mirror-like surface, the grey pre-storm sky and the battered brickwork are perfectly reflected — fluid oil paint reflections rendered in smooth glazed strokes across the water. A little further back, in the shade of old birch trees, the silhouettes of neighboring grey panel buildings recede into the misty haze. BACKGROUND — FOGGY DISTANCE: Further into the depth of the frame, the silhouettes of neighboring grey five-story concrete panel buildings dissolve into the foggy haze, their outlines softening into flat grey-blue shapes. The sky above is a heavy grey pre-storm sky, low and flat, filtering the cold October light. LIGHTING AND ATMOSPHERE: The whole painting is flooded with diffused, cold October light, making the air itself seem crystal clear and ringing. There are no strong shadows — only soft, flat illumination that reveals every texture of the wet asphalt, the rusted iron, and the fallen leaves.
